About Us

MithilaAgriFoods (Raw Makhana Production & Supply)

Welcome to Vira Pops — where purity meets tradition, and nature meets nurture. We are a passionate group of cultivators, rooted in the fertile plains and ponds of Mithila, Bihar, dedicated to producing the highest quality Raw Makhana (foxnuts) for domestic and global markets. Unlike commercial brands that simply package or process snacks, we are at the very beginning of the value chain — we cultivate, harvest, pop, grade, and supply raw Makhana directly from our farms.

This isn’t just agriculture for us. It’s a legacy, a tradition, and a livelihood. With every kernel of Makhana we produce, we carry forward the heritage of our ancestors and the pride of our land.

The Legacy of Makhana in Mithila

Makhana, also known as foxnut or Euryale ferox, is a superfood native to the Indian subcontinent. The cultivation and consumption of Makhana can be traced back thousands of years. In Mithila, the region between northern Bihar and parts of Nepal, Makhana holds deep cultural, spiritual, and economic importance.

This region is home to the best conditions for Makhana cultivation — naturally formed ponds, seasonal wetlands, and nutrient-rich silt beds. For generations, farmers in Mithila have honed the delicate art of growing and harvesting Makhana in harmony with nature.

Makhana from Mithila is known for its:

  • Superior popping quality
  • Rich taste and crunch
  • High nutritional value
  • Large pearl-like appearance

In 2020, Mithila Makhana received the Geographical Indication (GI) tag, officially recognizing the unique identity and quality of Makhana grown in this region. At Vira Pops, we uphold this identity by following time-tested techniques and embracing innovation to improve efficiency and quality.

Our Farm-to-Market Philosophy

Vira Pops was founded with a simple mission: to preserve and elevate the heritage of Mithila’s Makhana by building a sustainable, traceable, and ethical supply chain. We are not intermediaries or processors — we are cultivators.

Our philosophy is based on four pillars:

Ownership of Cultivation

We own and manage our ponds, ensuring full control over water, soil, inputs, and methods.
